75-year-old dies after parked vehicle allegedly moved due to handbrake failure; police call it an accident

A tragic incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad has shocked many after a 75-year-old woman lost her life in what police are calling a “freak accident”. The incident, which occurred in the Kadrigate area, was captured on a CCTV camera installed at the victim’s residence.

According to police, the woman, identified as Sarla Katiyar, was crushed between a Mahindra Thar and a boundary wall after the vehicle suddenly rolled backward.

How The Incident Happened

CCTV footage shows the elderly woman opening the gate of her house to allow the SUV to enter. After the vehicle was driven inside, she began closing the gate. At that moment, the parked Thar unexpectedly started rolling backward.

The woman is seen getting trapped between the vehicle and the wall, crying out for help. A young man nearby rushed toward the car in an attempt to stop it and tried to open the door. Failing to control the situation, he raised an alarm and ran inside to call for help.

Possible Cause

Police said initial findings suggest that the handbrake of the vehicle may not have been applied properly, causing it to roll back.

Station Officer Kapil Kumar from Kadrigate police station said, “It appears to be an accident. The victim died after the vehicle rolled back as the handbrake had not been applied properly.”

Investigation Status

Officials said the incident took place two days before the video surfaced. So far, no evidence of foul play has been found.

The vehicle was reportedly parked by the victim’s grandson. No FIR has been registered as the family has not filed any complaint.
