Heatwave Alert For Pune: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Issues Advisory For Public Safety
Pimpri, March 14, 2025: Amid rising temperatures across Pimpri-Chinchwad and neighboring states, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued an advisory urging residents to take precautionary measures against the ongoing heatwave. With the temperature in many cities of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan surpassing 40°C, authorities have warned of severe heat stress, posing health risks, especially to children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
Do’s to Stay Safe During the Heatwave:
- Drink plenty of water, even if you are not thirsty.
- Wear light, loose, and breathable cotton clothing.
- Use hats, caps, sunglasses, and umbrellas when stepping outside.
- Carry a water bottle while traveling.
- Cover your head, neck, and face with a damp cloth when exposed to extreme heat.
- Consume hydrating drinks like ORS, buttermilk, and coconut water regularly.
- Keep pets in shaded areas and provide them with adequate water.
- Use fans, coolers, and sunshades to maintain indoor temperatures.
- Keep windows open at night for ventilation.
- Take regular showers with cool water.
- Encourage workers to avoid direct sun exposure.
- Complete outdoor work early in the morning.
- Take breaks while working outdoors.
- Ensure special care for children, pregnant women, elderly, and ailing individuals.
Avoid These During a Heatwave:
- Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
- Avoid going outdoors between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
- Avoid wearing dark, tight, or heavy clothing.
- Refrain from physically exhausting work between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
- Avoid cooking in enclosed spaces—keep kitchen doors and windows open for ventilation.
PCMC officials have urged all citizens to follow these safety measures to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure their well-being.
