Heavy Rain Forecast; MSEDCL On 'High Alert'
Mumbai, May 24, 2025 – In view of the likelihood of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over the next three to four days due to a low-pressure area forming over the Arabian Sea, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has declared a high alert across the state. Emergency preparedness plans are being activated to ensure uninterrupted power supply during this period and throughout the monsoon season.
MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director, Lokesh Chandra, on Friday reviewed the power supply readiness across the state. He instructed that top priority be given to restoring any power outages caused by natural disasters. Emergency control rooms operating 24×7 have been set up at the headquarters and regional levels. He also directed that no senior official should leave the headquarters without prior approval.
The video conference was attended by Director (Operations) Sachin Talewar, along with chief engineers and superintendent engineers from across Maharashtra. Although the low-pressure zone over the Arabian Sea remains stable, its impact is expected to result in heavy rainfall with stormy winds in several districts of Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha.
Chandra emphasized swift restoration in case of outages and strict adherence to electrical safety protocols. He urged engineers to be present at sites with major faults and accelerate repair work. Customers must be promptly informed via SMS, WhatsApp, Twitter, or media if delays are expected in restoring power.
All field engineers have been instructed to remain on standby with equipment, poles, transformers, and repair materials. Emergency personnel, vehicles, and support agencies have also been asked to prepare on a war footing to tackle the upcoming monsoon challenges efficiently.
