Heavy Rainfall in Pune Causes Severe Traffic Disruptions, IMD Issues Yellow Alert
Pune, Maharashtra – Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc across Pune, leading to significant traffic disruptions due to widespread waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Saturday, forecasting moderate rainfall throughout the day.
Compared to last year, Pune has received more rainfall this monsoon season, and continued showers are expected for the rest of the week. The IMD predicts predominantly cloudy skies, with light to moderate rain and temperatures hovering around 28°C during the day and between 22°C and 24°C at night.
Waterlogged streets have caused severe traffic delays, with some areas experiencing waist-deep water. Numerous vehicles have stalled, leaving passengers stranded, and long queues of cars have formed on major roads, forcing commuters to endure lengthy travel times.
Light rain is expected on Sunday, with no additional weather warnings for the day. However, the IMD forecasts intensified rainfall starting Thursday. Sporadic downpours continue across Pune, with moderate rain affecting surrounding regions as well.
As residents grapple with the consequences of the heavy rains, concerns about transportation and safety remain high. The city’s infrastructure is struggling to cope with the deluge, further complicating the situation for daily commuters.
Local authorities are being urged to address the waterlogging issue immediately to prevent further traffic disruptions. With more rainfall anticipated, timely intervention is critical to avoid worsening conditions. Residents are advised to stay informed with weather updates and plan their commutes accordingly.
