Pune: With shows of the Marathi films getting cancelled due to Hindi movies taking up the screens, director Hemant Dhome urged people to give priority to Marathi movies over other languages.

Dhome tweeted, “Once again Marathi films in Maharashtra… If you have to struggle to get a show for Marathi cinema in this state, it is difficult! The film which was to be released on Friday is releasing the next day! People are buying tickets for Sunny and our shows are being cancelled. We need a strict law for Marathi cinema.” His tweet gathered support from various quarters.

Dhome appealed, “We don’t have any problems with the success of Hindi movies but our Marathi films will only get popular once we give it priority. In the south, Hindi movies are given second preference.”

Talking about the issue, actor Lalit Prabhakar, said, “It is all about priority. We need support from people. We need word-of-mouth publicity for Marathi movies. Since our childhood, we have watched more Hindi movies than Marathi. So, somewhere we need to change our priorities. Other states give preference to movies in their language instead of Hindi movies.”
