The court order comes as a relief to the auto rickshaw drivers as a few days back, they organised a strike against Rapido’s bike service.

Pune: The Bombay High Court passed the order in favour of Auto rickshaw drivers by suspending all the services of Rapido till January 20, 2023, after the court discovered that Rapido didn’t have licences to operate bike-taxi service. As Rapido was illegally operating in the country, therefore, not only its bike taxi service but two wheeler parcel service and auto service has also been suspended.

The court order comes as a relief to the auto rickshaw drivers as a few days back, they organised a strike against Rapido’s bike service. Later Rapido had rushed to Court as it stated that the closure in service will affect employment of workers working in the company. Meanwhile, the state government has formed an independent committee for ‘bike taxis’. The committee will soon submit its report to the High Court but till then the demand of the state government to stop this service immediately has also been accepted.

Nitin Pawar, convenor of the Rickshaw Panchayat said, “After knowing the service provided by Rapido was illegal, as it didn’t come under the public transportation, the way auto rickshaw comes, the High Court suspended all services including bike taxi, two wheeler delivery service and auto service in Maharashtra. The service has been banned till the next hearing on January 20.”
