A delegation led by Hindu Janajagruti Samiti submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Collector, North Goa on Thursday, urging for a ban on the festival which is slated to be held at the Vagator beach between December 28 and 31.

The group demanded a ban on the yearly Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival be banned on the grounds that it encourages “drug culture.”

The organizers have declared that, as in previous years, ‘Sunburn 2023’ will take place annually at Vagator beach in Goa. Goa is losing its civility because of the festival. The memorandum claimed that by encouraging drug culture, these festivals are ruining the next generation.

A Hindu Janajagruti Samiti member stated that organizing “Sunburn” is treason against culture. It is the duty to safeguard Goan youth and Gomantak culture. EDM should not exist in Goa. They request that the festival be permanently banned from Goa in order to protect the region’s cultural identity. These kinds of festivals encourage drug use.

The festival’s organizers revealed the lineup on Instagram last week. They are excited to announce that Sunburn Festival 2023 will be held in Vagator, Goa. They have called Vagator their home for years.

The clearance for the ban has not yet been given by the government. The organizers’ submitted documents were incomplete. They received four reminders before being asked to turn in the necessary paperwork for clearance.
