Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Nears Launch as Key Safety Trial Successfully Completed
Pimpri-Chinchwad To Get Metro Boost As Nigdi–Chakan Corridor Planned In New DPR
Pune, January 19, 2026: In a major boost for Pune commuters, especially IT professionals, the much-awaited Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line-3 has crossed a crucial milestone. The mandatory safety inspection conducted by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) has been successfully completed, paving the way for the commencement of passenger services in the near future.
Residents have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the metro line connecting the Hinjawadi IT hub with Shivajinagar for several months. With the successful trial run and clearance from RDSO, the authorities have taken a significant step towards starting regular metro operations on this corridor.
During the inspection, critical components such as tracks, signalling systems, and overall safety mechanisms were thoroughly tested. The successful completion of this process indicates that the metro line is technically ready to move closer to public operations.
According to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the supply of rolling stock for the project is progressing at a rapid pace. So far, 14 metro trainsets have arrived in Pune. As per the approved plan, a total of 22 trainsets will be inducted in phases. These trains will be used for further trial runs and technical tests before the launch of full-fledged passenger services.
Meanwhile, the remaining work at metro stations is also progressing swiftly. Station buildings, platforms, entry and exit routes, and other essential passenger facilities are nearly complete. Authorities are coordinating across departments to ensure the entire route becomes operational at the earliest.
The launch of the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro is expected to bring major relief to Pune’s traffic congestion and significantly reduce travel time. For thousands of IT employees in Hinjawadi, this long-standing demand is finally close to becoming a reality, promising faster, safer, and more convenient daily commutes.
