Housing societies in PCMC’s D ward awarded star ratings for effectively managing waste

Under Swachh Survekshan 2022, societies from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s D ward, comprising Wakad and Saudagar were awarded with  5 Star ratings for effectively managing waste. 
Under Swachh Survey 2022, PCMC, evaluated societies for their clean initiatives. Among them, Roseland Residency from Pimple Saudagar, Park Royal in Rahatni and Palash Society in Wakad were given star ratings based on their initiatives. Five Star Rating Award was given by the hands of Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil and Vikas Dhakne, additional commissioner, PCMC and D Ward Officer Umakant Gaikwad.

The following criteria were used for this evaluation:1. Garbage sorting2. Wet waste composting3. Solar energy + rainwater harvesting4. Zero Waste Society5. Sewage treatment and recycling Vitthal alias Nana Kate, who was also present during the programme appealed to all the housing societies to implement as many activities as possible so that they too can get star rating and get the benefit of property tax relief.

We have been taking initiatives like water recycling, waste segregation, wet waste composting, solar power generation and rain water harvesting since inception and have gradually moved towards a zero-waste society. Our society has been recognized in various forums for their green initiatives and has won multiple awards for cleanliness, Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan, Swacch Survekshan 2022. I would like to thank each member of our society and the Management Committee for supporting this vision and contributing to the success, all our society staff for working tirelessly towards achieving this milestone and PCMC for recognizing our hard work and giving us this recognition.” Uday Sabde, Secretary, Park Royale Society. 

“I would like to thank all my society members, and the staff as it is a team effort. We haven’t implemented green initiatives to earn the rating, but it is our aim to become an environment friendly society, where we give a message of environment conservation. I would like to thank and appreciate corporation officials for taking note of this cause and are taking steps towards it and encouraging other societies as it is the need of the hour. I wish other societies would also implement this in their society. Now, our responsibility has increased to keep our planet garbage free and adopt green ways, ”  said Santosh Mhaskar, Chairman, Roseland Residency.


Rajesh Patil, commissioner, PCMC
said that other societies should also adopt green initiatives. Installation of composting projects, use of solar energy and water conservation are some of the projects which societies can take up, added Patil. 

Kiran Vadgama, chairman, Palash society in Wakad said, “Our society has fly ash bricks, windmill energy in the initial construction phase. In the year 2015-16, we started solid waste management, wet waste management, segregation process, composting, revamped the STP, installed rain water harvesting, installed rooftop solar 66kw solar project and many other green initiatives which are functioning perfectly till date. I thank my entire team of Palash for cooperating in this endeavour and special thanks to our members Swati Korde, Subedar and Pradnya Alate for their efforts.”
