Pune: A residential community in Hyderabad is facing criticism for releasing a notification that levies a penalty of Rs 1000 on domestic helpers, delivery staff and other labourers for utilizing the primary elevator of the complex. This particular notice was posted on social media by a user identified as Shaheena Attarwala.

Attarwala criticized the actions of society, indicating that such actions are indicative of a societal inclination to segregate based on occupation. She emphasized the contrast in treatment between India and Western countries, where she witnessed workers being treated with parity and reverence. Her message denounced the snobbish attitude that exists in certain sections of Indian society and urged an end to discrimination.

The video caption states that as a society, we have been conditioned to conceal our dark and dirty secrets. Furthermore, there is a prevailing belief that individuals engaged in laborious tasks cannot share the same environment as us. Should they be discovered, it is treated as if they have committed a crime, resulting in a hefty fine of Rs 1000, which amounts to approximately 25% of their earnings.

The announcement ignited a broad discussion on various social media channels, with numerous individuals denouncing the organization’s verdict as prejudiced. They contended that it reinforces social stratification and is unjust towards individuals who carry out crucial work.

Nevertheless, some individuals expressed their backing towards the society’s verdict, rationalizing the need for separate lifts for workers due to the main lifts being excessively crowded. They contended that this division is a prevalent practice in various commercial societies to guarantee effectiveness and ease for residents.
