On Sunday, September 8th, 2024, at 6:30 pm, Mazda Hall will host a captivating concert titled “Imaginary Landscape,” featuring the talented woodwind artist Shirish Malhotra and percussionist Rahul Vanamali. This program promises a unique musical journey, blending the delicate tones of wind instruments with the resonant beats of percussion.
The evening’s repertoire includes a diverse selection of compositions, such as J. S. Bach’s *Arioso*, Nathan Daughtry’s *Allez*, Carl Nielsen’s *The Fog is Lifting*, Shota Kageyama’s *Soaring Illusions*, and Andy Scott’s *Nemesis*. The performance will also feature pieces by Antônio Carlos Jobim, John Cage, Gabriel Grovlez, Claude Debussy, Erik Satie, and Nico Schoeters, offering a rich tapestry of sounds and styles.
Shirish Malhotra, a versatile musician, has garnered accolades for his proficiency in both the violin and the flute, having received numerous awards throughout his academic career. As a founding member of the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI), Shirish has established himself as a prominent figure in the Indian classical music scene. His extensive training, including a Master of Music degree in woodwind performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London, has led him to perform with various orchestras and ensembles worldwide.
Rahul Vanamali, a distinguished percussionist from Chennai, brings his expertise in mallet percussion and drum set to the stage. A graduate of the KM Music Conservatory and McGill University, Rahul has performed in diverse musical settings, from classical orchestras in Canada to jazz bands in Chennai. His commitment to music education is evident through his role as a percussion faculty member at the Sunshine Orchestra, an initiative of the AR Rahman Foundation.
