In-flight Mishap: Woman Orders Veg Meal, Receives Chicken Pieces – Air India Swiftly Addresses Incident

Recently, Veera Jain, a vegetarian passenger on an Air India flight (AI582) from Calicut to Mumbai, took to social media to express her dissatisfaction with the airline’s meal service. Jain, who had opted for a vegetarian meal, discovered pieces of chicken in her in-flight meal. 

She shared her ordeal on X (formerly Twitter), posting pictures of the offending meal along with her PNR number and flight details.

The photos clearly displayed the ‘veg meal’ label on the packaging alongside unexpected chicken pieces, raising concerns about Air India’s food handling practices. The flight, initially scheduled for a 6:40 PM departure, experienced an hour-long delay, further complicating Jain’s journey and affecting her friend’s connecting train to Ahmedabad.

Jain’s social media posts gained traction, prompting responses from fellow users and attracting the attention of regulatory bodies such as DGCA and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Air India, in its response, requested Jain to delete specific details from her open tweet and share them via direct message (DM) for further investigation.

Expressing her dissatisfaction with the airline’s handling of the situation, Jain criticized the apologies provided through DM, emphasizing the need for a more substantial acknowledgement and corrective action. She also highlighted the lack of proactive measures by the cabin crew to address similar complaints from other passengers with vegetarian meals.

The incident not only shed light on the challenges faced by Jain but also sparked a broader conversation about accountability, service quality, and communication within the aviation industry. As passengers increasingly turn to social media to voice their concerns, incidents like these underscore the significance of ensuring a seamless and respectful travel experience for all.
