Indian Army to Celebrate 77th Army Day in Pune
The Indian Army will celebrate its 77th Army Day with a grand parade in Pune on January 15, 2025.Â
This marks the third consecutive year that the parade has moved out of Delhi, following last year’s event in Lucknow. The parade will take place at the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre’s parade ground, making it the second time the event is hosted by the Southern Command, after Bengaluru’s celebration during the 75th Army Day.
The Army Day parade is a prestigious event featuring troops from various regiments. It will include displays of arms and equipment, technology demonstrations, and daredevil activities. Some functions may be open to the public, depending on logistics and security arrangements, as senior Army officers will be in attendance.
Rehearsals for the parade will commence in the coming months. The general officers commanding (GOC) of the Sub Area headquarters will lead the parade. If tradition holds, the GOC of Dakshin Maharashtra and Goa Sub Area will have the honor this year.
Southern Command is the largest command of the Indian Army, covering about 41% of India’s landmass. It houses several key defense establishments, which will be represented during the celebrations. Army authorities will coordinate with local district administration and state government departments for effective arrangements.
Veterans have called this event a “historic moment” for Pune, highlighting its rich military history.
The Army has also announced 2024 as the “Year of Technology Absorption,” showcasing advanced technology like drones and AI systems during the celebrations.
The Armoured Corps Centre and the Mechanised Infantry School from Ahmednagar are expected to display their main battle tanks and infantry carriers.
