Indian Army’s All Women Officers Sailing Expedition sails from Chennai

Indian Army is conducting an All Women Officers’ Sailing Expedition traversing the route Chennai-Vizag-Chennai with an aim to spreading awareness about the activity and opportunities available to young women. The event is being conducted by the Indian Army’s Adventure Wing Southern Command Sailing Node and EME Sailing Association.

The historic expedition was flagged off by Dr (Smt) Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana State and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry on 15 Feb 2022 from Chennai Port. The Governor, in her address, complimented the Indian Army and its formations for conducting such an event for the first time ever, and said that it demonstrates the strength and vigour of women officers in the Indian Army. 

Major Mukta Gautam from the Corps of EME is leading the expedition with the elite team comprising Major rank women officers Priya Semwal, Priya Das, Rashmil Sangwan, Arpita Dwivedi and Sanjana Mittal as well as Captain rank women officers Jyoti Singh, Malvika Rawat, Shubham Solanki and Sonal Goyal. The officers have been trained in blue water sailing and have undergone rigorous training under the EME Sailing Association and Heavy Bridging Training Camp (HBTC) Marve, before embarking on the expedition.

Lt Gen A Arun, General Officer Commanding Dakshin Bharat Area, officials from Indian Navy and Coast Guard and Chennai Port Trust attended the Flagging Off ceremony.
