Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi highlighted the unique challenges of the Indian market, emphasizing the demanding nature of Indian consumers who often expect more services at lower costs.

Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, Khosrowshahi identified India as one of the toughest markets globally. He stated that the key focus for Uber in India would be to strengthen its low-cost service segments, indicating a potential expansion of two-wheeler and three-wheeler services.

The CEO acknowledged the habit of Indian consumers to seek affordable options and expressed the company’s determination to succeed in this challenging market. Khosrowshahi also discussed Uber’s response to losses during the COVID-19 pandemic, mentioning that the company was using its mobility business to fund the delivery business, coping with approximately $3 billion in losses.

Uber further signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), aligning with Uber’s vision to serve the mobility needs of all Indians and supporting ONDC’s objective of democratizing digital commerce. Uber aims to explore opportunities to make its platform a comprehensive solution for daily mobility needs in India.
