Gadkari further said ring road projects connecting towns around Bengaluru will also be completed by December 2024

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has expressed confidence in the timely completion of two major infrastructure projects in Karnataka viz. the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway and the ring road connecting towns around Bengaluru. Gadkari stated that both projects are expected to be finalized by December 2024, bringing about a transformative impact on the region’s connectivity. The minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for 18 national highway projects.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway holds particular significance as its completion is anticipated to significantly reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai to a mere two hours. Presently, commuters face an average travel time of 5 to 6 hours on the existing routes. The expressway, spanning 262 km, will provide a direct and efficient connection between two major IT hubs in the country.

The project involves a strategic route from Hoskote on the outskirts of Bengaluru, passing through Malur, Bangarpet, Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Palamaner, Chittoor and Ranipet towns before concluding at Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. With a permitted speed limit of 120 km per hour, the expressway is designed to enhance travel efficiency and reduce the distance between the two cities by approximately 80 km.

The completion of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is expected to bolster economic activities, ease business operations and encourage collaboration among various industries. This major infrastructure development aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance regional connectivity and foster economic growth.

Additionally, the ring road project, designed to connect towns around Bengaluru, is progressing in tandem with the expressway. These developments collectively aim to address congestion, improve transportation efficiency and contribute to the overall infrastructural growth of the region.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s positive outlook on the timeline for completion reinforces the commitment of the government toward advancing critical infrastructure projects that play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the region. The completion of these projects is eagerly anticipated as it holds the promise of reshaping the transportation landscape and boosting connectivity in Karnataka.
