Indian Oil, BPCL Assures Ample Fuel Supply Amid Panic Buying in Border States
New Delhi, May 9, 2025 –
As panic buying of fuel gripped several states bordering Pakistan amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) on Friday issued a public assurance that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG across the country.
In an official statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), IOC clarified that ample fuel stocks are available nationwide and supply operations are running smoothly, urging citizens to remain calm and avoid unnecessary fuel hoarding.

“Indian Oil has ample fuel stocks across the country and our supply lines are operating smoothly. There is no need for panic buying—fuel and LPG are readily available at all our outlets,” the statement read.
The panic buying behavior was mostly seen in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat—states that share borders with Pakistan. These regions have seen heightened alert levels in response to recent military escalations.
Tensions have sharply risen following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. In retaliation, India launched strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. On the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, Pakistan’s armed forces allegedly carried out drone and artillery attacks targeting Indian military infrastructure along the western border.
The Indian Army reported that all such attacks were effectively repulsed, and similar infiltrations had been thwarted in at least 15 locations in the northern and western sectors over recent days.
Even, Bharat Petroleum issued a statement stating that the stock is upto the mark and there is no need to panic.

The statement stated, ” BPCL assures all citizens that sufficient stock of Petrol, Diesel, CNG, and LPG are available across our nationwide network. All our Fuel Stations and LPG Distributorships are operating smoothly and are fully equipped to meet the energy needs of consumers. There is no cause for concern or panic buying. We urge all customers to remain calm, as our supply chain operations remain robust and efficient, ensuring uninterrupted supplies.”
In response to the threat, blackouts and siren alerts were enforced in many border towns. These developments triggered fear among civilians, prompting long queues at petrol stations and rapid stockpiling of essential fuels.
Indian Oil’s advisory emphasized that public cooperation is crucial during such high-stress situations. “Help us serve you better by staying calm and avoiding unnecessary rush. This will keep our supply lines running seamlessly and ensure uninterrupted fuel access for all,” the corporation posted.
Despite IOC’s assurances, social media users reported service delays at some fuel stations, with complaints of understaffing and long waiting times, especially in metro areas like Mumbai’s Govandi-Shivaji Nagar.
The Ministry of Petroleum is closely monitoring the situation. Officials reiterated that all oil marketing companies are equipped to meet the demand, and any disruptions are being swiftly addressed.
As tensions continue, authorities are urging citizens to remain alert but not alarmed, and to refrain from behaviors that may strain essential services.
