International cargo services resume at Pune airport

After more than a year, international cargo exports from Pune airport resumed again on Wednesday. The green signal to begin international operations has been granted to the airport administration. While local cargo operations progressively resumed, exports abroad were still halted.

A Pune Airport official stated that a few permissions were still pending at the Pune airport. Following thorough inspections, they were approved last week. Only after the relocation of cargo handling to the newly constructed integrated cargo terminal, which opened in early August of last year, did domestic cargo operations begin. In terms of handling cargo, 2023 has not been good for the airport.

The Pune airport’s international cargo services were shut down for a year because the customs department refused to clear the cargo. Following the resolution of minor technical issues, the airport facility was inspected by customs department officials in December. Cargo service was subsequently approved during the first week of January.

Since the international cargo service has begun, Pune’s residents and small and large business owners will both profit from it.

Also, the transit facility is starting at Pune airport which means that cargo won’t need to obtain permission from customs at other airports as long as they receive it from the customs department at Pune Airport.
Santosh Dhoke, Airport Director, Pune Airport, said “The international cargo services have resumed since yesterday (10th January) at Pune airport. Now, the international cargo consignments have also started to export from Pune airport.”
