Iron frame collapses during Dahi Handi on senior citizens at Ganesh Peth

Pune: A massive iron frame structure for a Dahi Handi event at Pangul Aali in Ganesh Peth collapsed on 4 senior citizens on Thursday.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dadasaheb Chudappa, Police Inspector, Faraskhana Police Station said, “The victims were on their way home after performing prayers at the temple when the structure came crashing down on them from a height of 15 ft. A spot inspection showed that the mandal had hired mandap contractors to install iron frames and lighting decorators to install audio systems and decoration lights on the mandal structure. The contractor and the lighting decorator covered three out of four sides with thick plastic sheeting. The lighting decorators were completing the last touches to the mandal structure when a powerful gust of wind blocked the plastic sheeting. The structure was unable to withstand the force of the wind and crashed down.”
As per further information from Chudappa, 3 out of 4 senior citizens, identified as Nirmaladevi Punmiya, Kevalchand Solanki & Tarabai Solanki have suffered minor injuries; however, the 4th senior citizen, Manda Changediya, has suffered fractures on hands and legs due to which she has been admitted to KEM Hospital for further treatment.
A case has been registered under Sections 337, 338 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A notice has been issued to the mandal. Further investigation is going on.
