Google’s product lineup is a veritable cemetery. The business is infamous for producing subpar goods and services. None of them, though, has become a mainstream or extremely well-liked product. Therefore, it came as a surprise when the false information about Google shutting down the most widely used email service in the world didn’t just circulate, but did so quickly.
However, Gmail has clarified that these are just rumours and has tweeted “Gmail is here to stay.”
Gmail users’ fear prompted Google to take notice and act.
A message that went viral initially sparked the rumor, saying that the company was getting ready to discontinue Gmail later this year. The altered photo circulated on social media sites like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). According to certain reports, the TikTok app is where it all began. According to a few of these posts, Google is discontinuing Gmail in response to the criticism it faced regarding the creation of Gemini images.
Incidentally, it also seems that Google realised the gravity of Gmail shutting down rumour spreading on social media platforms. As a ‘community clarification’ post from Google followed all such posts on X.
Gmail is here to stay.
