On Thursday, February 22, 2024, it came under notice that the passengers of a train from Pune to Kanyakumari’s faced issues regarding the unhygienic wash basin of Coach S5.

The wash basin was not cleaned, due to which it had become dirty, leaving a bad odour. This issue came under notice when an X (formerly Twitter) user tweeted expressing his grievance towards the Central Railways.

The tweet said, “@RailminIndia Pune to Kanyakumari train S5 coach basin situation… not clean, even dirty smells.”

Ram Paul Barpagga, Public Relations Officer, Pune Division, Central Railway, said, “We have registered a complaint about this issue with the station director. They will look into this issue and make sure that the basins of not only S5 but all coaches are clean. The commuters who will be travelling today from Pune to Kanyakumari will not face the same issue.”

It takes more than one day to reach Kanyakumari from Pune through railways; people travelling for such a long distance should be provided with clean toilets and basins.

Moreover, they should be cleaned at intervals, as several people use the washrooms and washbasins.
