Is Quality Education in India Too Expensive? Father Highlights Rs 4.27 Lakh School Fees
A resident of Jaipur stated that individuals with an annual income of Rs 20 lakh might find it challenging to pay for schools that demand more than Rs 4 lakh in yearly fees for their children.
“My daughter will start Grade 1 next year, and this is the fee structure of one of the schools we are considering in our city. Note that other good schools also have similar fees. This is the price of quality education in India. Can you afford it even if you earn 20 lakh a year,” says a father from Jaipur.
Rishabh Jain disclosed the fee structure, indicating that the total fees for the year would be Rs 4.27 lakh.
Half of a $20,000 income is taken by the government through various taxes, including Income Tax, GST, VAT on fuel, Road Tax, Toll Tax, Professional Tax, Capital Gains Tax, and Land Registry fees. Additionally, you are still responsible for paying term insurance, health insurance premiums, and contributions to the Provident Fund and National Pension System for retirement. With an income of 20L, you enter the top 30% tax bracket plus CESS, making you ineligible for government assistance and leaving you without the benefits or loan waivers that wealthier individuals receive, he adds further.

Jain further provides how the fees are divided:
Registration Charges: ₹2,000
– Admission Fees: ₹40,000
– Caution Money (Refundable): ₹5,000
– Annual School Fees: ₹2,52,000
– Bus Charges: ₹1,08,000
– Books & Uniform: ₹20,000
“Bro it feels like you are exaggerating the numbers! And also purposefully you have picked the costliest school in your city to make this tweet! Not trying to disregard the fact that yes in our country quality edu is a joke and cess that govt collects for edu goes to politicians,” said one comment that appeared below Jain’s post. His reply says, “It may feel like I am exaggerating, trust me I am not. Get married & settle in a big city to find for yourself. Also, Sorry that I am trying to find the best school for my daughter like any parent would,” replies Jain.
“You are still lucky that your city still has some quality education options although too much costly. I am living in Sagar (Tier 4 type city in MP). I don’t even have such options here even if I have financial means. Can homeschooling be considered as an alternative,” says another comment.
