Sangli, Maharashtra, October 24, 2025: The town of Islampur in Sangli district has officially been renamed Ishwarpur, following approval from the central government. The renaming proposal, initiated by the state government, has now been formally sanctioned, making Ishwarpur the town’s official name.

Islampur has held political significance in the Sangli region, and the decision to rename it was part of a broader initiative by the Mahayuti government to rename several towns and districts across Maharashtra since coming to power.

During a recent legislative assembly session, Minister Chhagan Bhujbal confirmed that the proposal to rename Islampur as Ishwarpur had been sent to the central government, which has now granted approval.

This decision adds another town to Maharashtra’s official list of renamed locations, reflecting the ongoing state-level renaming efforts.

The Mahayuti government had been actively pursuing the renaming of multiple towns and districts in Maharashtra, and the completion of the Islampur-Ishwarpur process marks a continuation of this policy.
