ISRO scientist N Valarmathi, voice behind Chandrayaan 3 mission launch countdown, passes away

Pune: Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO) scientist N Valarmathi, the iconic voice behind rocket launch countdowns passed away in Chennai recently.

As per information from the Twitter handle of Dr P V Venkitakrishnan, former ISRO Director, ‘The voice of Valarmathi Madam will not be there for the countdowns of future missions of ISRO from Sriharikota. Chandrayaan 3 was her final countdown announcement. An unexpected demise. Feel so sad. Pranam!’

Valarmathi, who hails from the state of Tamil Nadu’s Ariyalur, breathed her last breath after suffering a heart attack. Chandrayaan 3, which was launched on July 14 and became the first in the world to successfully land on the south pole of the Moon was her last spacecraft countdown.

Valarmathi was also the first person to receive the Abdul Kalam Award on August 15, 2015.
