Kamla Pasand owner’s daughter-in-law dies by suicide; Family Alleges Harassment
Delhi: A 40-year-old woman, Deepti Chaurasia, the daughter-in-law of Kamal Kishore — owner of Kamla Pasand and Rajshree Pan Masala — was found hanging at her home in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, on Tuesday. Police said she was discovered with a scarf inside the house.
Officers also recovered a diary in which Deepti mentioned disputes with her husband, Harpreet Chaurasia. The couple married in 2010 and has a 14-year-old son.
According to News18, Deepti may have taken the extreme step due to Harpreet’s alleged second marriage. Several reports claim he recently married a South Indian actress, though police have not confirmed this.
Deepti’s brother, Rishabh, told the media that she faced harassment and physical abuse. He said the family had taken her home after learning about Harpreet’s alleged affairs, but she was later sent back. “I don’t know if my sister took her own life or was killed. I just want justice,” he said.
A case has been registered at the Vasant Vihar police station, and an investigation is underway.
The Chaurasia family is a major name in the pan masala industry. Kamal Kishore and his father, Kamala Kant Chaurasia, built the Kamla Pasand brand over four decades, growing it from a small kiosk in Kanpur to a multi-city business with a multi-billion-rupee turnover.
