Karwa Chauth, also known as Karaka Chaturthi or Karva Chauth, is an important Hindu festival observed during the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Kartik. However, in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and South India, where the Amant calendar is followed, Karva Chauth falls in the month of Ashwin. This year, it will be celebrated on November 1. On this auspicious day, married women undertake a nirjala vrat (a fast without water and food) from dawn until the moonrise, praying for their husband’s longevity. They break their fast after performing the moon worship and offering Arghya. The husband then feeds them a morsel of food and a sip of water to conclude the vrat. Therefore, the sighting of the moon is a significant ritual during the Karwa Chauth fast.
