Pune: Pune Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh Limited, which markets milk under the Katraj brand, has hiked the price of Katraj milk  by Rs 2 per litre across all markets from February 1.

The decision regarding the price hike was taken by the board of directors in a meeting conducted on Monday, said officials.

At the same time, the sangh also increased procurement rates of cow milk by Rs 2 per litre. From 1 st of February, dairy farmers will get Rs 37.80 per litre for cow milk (3.5 Fat and 8.5 SNF)

Elaborating the reasons behind the price hike chairman Keshar Pawar told,”There are multiple reasons behind the continuous price rise that includes a rise in milk procurement costs, increasing fodder prices and rising transportation costs. Increasing fuel and fodder charges land dairy farmers in trouble. To help farmers in such conditions we have decided to hike the price effective from February 1, 2023. ”

However, common people are not happy with this decision.  “Already fuel prices are increasing on a daily basis, the government also increased LPG prices in frequent intervals. Now this increased milk prices will create additional burden on the pocket of the common man. Government should control this inflation as early as possible.” said  Amit Develangkar, resident of Kothrud.
