Pune’s renowned Kayani Bakery, known for its delectable treats, can finally breathe a sigh of relief as it sees an end to the online scam that plagued its reputation. Following reports of cyber frauds creating a fake website and fraudulent Google listing in the bakery’s name, the bakery has now stopped receiving complaints from duped customers.

Rustom Kayani, a partner at Kayani Bakery, confirmed the cessation of complaints and stated that on April 19, they submitted a letter to the Lashkar police station to close their complaint regarding the online fraud. The letter highlighted Google’s action in removing the fraudulent listing and the subsequent decline in fraudulent activities targeting the bakery.

Despite the relief, authorities have yet to trace the perpetrators behind the online fraud. The scam involved cybercriminals creating a false Google listing with a registered phone number, impersonating the bakery to deceive customers into making fraudulent transactions via WhatsApp.

Numerous customers fell victim to the scam, leading to a surge in complaints and prompting Kayani Bakery to file a formal complaint with the police. The bakery’s owners and staff faced the challenge of reassuring duped customers and clarifying their legitimate payment methods.

Rustom Kayani explained the proactive measures taken by the bakery, including alerting both the police and Google about the fraudulent listing. While initially met with no response, media coverage spurred Google representatives to address the issue, resulting in the removal of the fraudulent information.

With the restored integrity of its online presence, Kayani Bakery now aims to close the chapter on the online fraud complaint. However, they remain vigilant and ready to collaborate with authorities should any recurrence of fraudulent activity be detected.

Established in 1955, Kayani Bakery holds a prestigious position in the culinary world, ranking 18th in Taste Atlas’s list of the World’s 150 Legendary Dessert Places. Despite the setback caused by the online scam, the bakery continues to uphold its legacy of excellence in the realm of desserts and confectionaries.
