The wedding cancellation due to dowry issues led to the tragic suicide of a doctor and a soon-to-be bride in Kerala. As per reports, the groom, who is also a doctor, had demanded a BMW car, gold, and 15 acres of land. Groom was apprehended by the police on Thursday.

As per the information provided, Dr. Shahana (26), a surgery department postgraduate student at Government Medical College, was discovered unconscious at her residence on Tuesday and subsequently pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. In her suicide note, she expressed that “everyone’s sole desire is money.”

As per the information received, Shahana’s father, who previously worked in the Middle East, passed away not long ago. Her family claimed that she was experiencing depression caused by the exorbitant dowry demanded by the groom’s family, which ultimately led her to take her own life. Individuals close to the deceased’s family asserted that Shahana was deeply saddened when her fiancé called off their marriage, citing dowry as the primary factor.

However, the groom’s family later requested an exorbitant amount of 150 sovereigns of gold, 15 acres of land, and a BMW car. Shahana’s family was unable to accept this demand, leading to their disagreement.

According to the police, the groom, Ruwais, who is a postgraduate doctor in the college, was apprehended on Thursday based on the information provided by the victim’s family. Following Shahana’s death, a case of unnatural death was filed, and additional charges of abetment to suicide and violation of the Dowry Prohibition Act were included based on the statements given by Dr. Shahana’s family.

The Kerala government initiated an investigation on Wednesday following allegations of dowry-related issues leading to a suicide. Health Minister Veena George instructed the director of the Women and Child Development Department to conduct a thorough investigation and provide a detailed report on the matter.
