Khadki Cantonment proposes mandatory implementation of rainwater harvesting
The newly drafted borewell digging bylaws of the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) propose the mandatory implementation of rainwater harvesting for housing societies, military establishments, and individual house owners.
The directive from the Directorate has prompted all 61 General of Defence Estates (DGDE) cantonments to prepare a new draft policy, resulting in the formulation of these new rules.
As per the information provided, steps are been taken to improve groundwater tables within the cantonment limits. In addition to conducting a groundwater survey of both civil and military areas, they are proposing measures to preserve natural resources.
An activist from the Pune Cantonment Board, has emphasized the importance of protecting natural water sources such as wells, springs, and ponds in addition to following regulations. Furthermore, the need for rainwater harvesting is to prevent wastage of this valuable resource.
As per reports, cantonment is sufficiently supplied with water from the Indrayani and Pavana rivers, which restricts the need for borewell excavation.
