Kharadi might be an upscale location having world renowned IT companies or real estate projects. But the area lacks basic facilities such as adequate water supply, public amenities as well as a post office. The residents of this emerging destination are now facing the need of having its own Post Office seeing its vast development in the last five – ten years.

The nearest one the residents can use is at the restricted premises of the Air Force base in Lohegaon. This is the oldest one in the area.
Pune Pulse spoke to the residents of the area, who are demanding that Kharadi should have its own post office as well as a new pin code too.

“Kharadi is a prominent IT Hub and has many reputed MNCs . But we lack basic amenities like a post office . Our nearest post office  is in Indian Air Force (IAF) area. Having a post office will be beneficial not only to thousands of residents but also to the companies at World Trade Centre WTC and EON IT Park. There is a sizeable population in Kharadi because of  EON IT park . There is a need for a separate post office and Pincode as currently, we share the postal pin code with the entire Viman Nagar and Vadgaon Sheri areas,” said Nitin Memane, president of Kharadi Residents Association.

“Post office for Kharadi area in the restricted Lohegaon  Air Force Station. It’s difficult to visit the Post Office and avail the facilities as the nearest open gate is quite far. Having a post office will enhance the living of the residents and also reduce the burden on the postal staff at Dunkirk Lines post office, “said Mehzabin Saiyed, a resident of Kharadi.

“This is a great initiative and would help residents. Vadgaon Sheri Post Office is very small and Viman Nagar falls at long distance and the Post Office at Kharadi would help all residents, especially college going students to post competitive exams, senior citizens for their savings schemes and homemakers who have limited mobility, ” said Akhil Jain, Regional Manager(West), Nalco Water India Limited.

Mukund Badwe, Officer of East Zone Post India, said, “Few citizen and society federation did approach us to set up a separate post office for Kharadi. We have even agreed to set up an office, but we are waiting for confirmation for area or space to set up the office. Once we get an approved location from the area corporators, we will set up the post office.”
