Pune: The residents of Kharadi have expressed their frustration regarding the tree-cutting activities carried out by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the area. According to reports, PMC employees were instructed to trim the branches of the trees, but residents have alleged that the entire tree was cut down.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Prabha Karpe, President of the Kharadi Residents Welfare Association, stated, “I was present at the Mahatma Phule police station around 1 p.m. on Sunday when I received a call about the trees being cut. Once the immersion processions have been completed, we intend to file a First Information Report (FIR).”

Yogita Ambade, another resident, expressed her distress saying, “It is disheartening to witness the destruction of mature trees when there could have been alternative solutions for any significant issues. There are more pressing matters such as encroachment and properties under litigation that hinder the development of our area. We hold nature in high regard, and even our mother earth would not approve of this.”

Amit Chaubal, another resident added, “PMC employees have caused harm to the environment by cutting down entire trees instead of just trimming the branches.”

While talking to Pune Pulse, Sandip Chavan, from the garden department,  explained, “The tree was cut down because it was obstructing the path. As a precautionary measure for the immersion processions and to prevent any accidents in the area, the tree was cut. However, the trunk up to 10 feet has been retained to allow for regrowth.”
