Pune: A significant amount of waste is being accumulated on the streets of the city, both at designated and non-designated garbage disposal points. This not only results in a repugnant odour but also attracts flies and contributes to the spread of various diseases.

The residents of Kharadi have expressed their concern over the constant dumping of garbage in the area, which has caused inconvenience to the people living in the surrounding societies.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Mehzabin Saiyed, a social activist from Kharadi stated that food vendors, small hoteliers, house helps, and basti people are responsible for dumping garbage on the main road from Shri Venkateshwara Petroleum (HP) to Mundhwa River bridge on both the sides. Although the Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative (APCCI) picks up the waste every day, regular dumping continues. A permanent solution is required, such as a designated area where people can dispose of their garbage.

Another resident, Akshay Rudrawar added, “Garbage is dumped daily in the vicinity of Manipal Hospital and the nearby Masjid. Dry garbage is burnt in a private plot near the hospital, causing significant inconvenience to patients as well as residents.’

Another resident, Ajay Mahindrakar added, “Garbage is being dumped in the corner, emitting a foul smell. This poses a significant problem for nearby residents and can also deteriorate their health.”
