Pune: Ramesh Bais, Maharashtra Governor stated on Tuesday that the state government should think about changing school hours to ensure that students receive enough sleep due to the ‘changed sleeping schedules’ in today’s world.

Bais was speaking about changing school timings at a ceremony, held at Raj Bhavan, during the inauguration of several schemes that the state’s education department had launched. The Governor inaugurated several initiatives such as the Chief Minister’s My School Beautiful School scheme, Goshtincha Shaniwar (Saturdays for stories), adoption of schools, my school-my yard etc.

As per further information, Bais said that sleep schedules have shifted recently for everyone. Many kids remain awake past midnight. Nevertheless, they have to get up early to go to school. Children suffer from insufficient sleep as a result. So, school timings must be changed.

Bais also recommended that to reduce the weight of the school bags that kids carry every day, schools should offer e-books and start concepts like no-books days etc. Bais further added that children are not reading books the way they used to in the past as a large portion of their knowledge is consumed online, mostly via smartphones. They ought to have access to a variety of entertaining and instructive e-books, audiobooks and videobooks. However, they should also receive training in schools on how to prevent themselves from cybercrime.
