Pune:  A professor from Kolkata drowned in the swimming pool of a renowned Pune Hotel in Shivaji Nagar recently.  An FIR has been registered against the lifeguard of the swimming pool and the hotel management in this case.

As per information, the deceased has been identified as Mohit Pramod Agarwal, a 35-year-old resident of BK Paul Avenue, Kolkata, West Bengal. Agarwal’s relative, Amar Santosh Manka, lodged a complaint at Shivaji Nagar police station, resulting in the aforementioned case being registered against the hotel management on Ganeshkhind Road and the lifeguard of the swimming pool.

According to the police, the deceased was a guide of students pursuing a course and had travelled to Pune from Kolkata to provide a guest lecture at an institute. He and his colleagues were staying at the hotel on Ganeshkhind Road. He went for a swim in the hotel’s swimming pool and subsequently lost his life.

As per the information received, Agarwal was rescued by security guards after it was discovered that he had drowned in the swimming pool. The police have attributed the accident to the negligence of hotel management and the lifeguards.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Arvind Mane, Police Inspector, Shivaji Nagar Police Station added, ”A thorough investigation is being carried out in this case, and FIR has been registered under Section 304(a) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”
