Pune:

A peaceful protest was organised on Thursday by Kondhwa Wanawadi Medical Practitioners Association outside Hotel Jyothi near Kondhwa condemning the attack on doctors of Sana Hospital, Kondhwa.

The Pune wing of the Indian Medical Association also registered their protest.

Supporting the cause of the protest, Sainath Babar, president, Pune City, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, said “We have seen that during the pandemic, doctors have done a very great job. Attack on doctors is unacceptable. Doctors, on their part, should understand the situation of the patient and act accordingly so that such incidents are avoided.”

Explaining the trigger for the protest, Dr Aliya Inamdar, president, Kondhwa Wanawadi Medical Practitioners Association said, “Due to a very minor issue, a doctor was attacked on Sunday night. There was no mistake on the doctor’s part, but he was still physically abused. In Kondhwa, it has become very common to ill-treat and abuse doctors. We have complained about this to the police commissioner. This time, to make people aware, we organised a peaceful protest. People must know that attacking doctors is a non-bailable offence. There is a Doctors Protection Act and this act should be implemented. In the past also, many incidents of attack on doctors have happened in Kondhwa.”

Nanda Lonkar, former Nationalist Congress Party Corporator, NIBM road, also said that she supported the protest.

The protest was also supported by WUNKS – Wanowrie, Undri, Kondhwa, NIBM road and Salunke Vihar road residents group on a social media platform.
