Pune: On October 25, a vehicle check was conducted by officers from the Kondhwa police station and staff from the traffic department at Jyoti Hotel Chowk. 

A white Kia Sonet car with number plate number MH 12 U J 5970 was stopped approximately 20 to 25 feet beyond the checkpoint.

As per the information provided, the car had tinted black windows, and three to four individuals were observed inside. As the police approached to inspect the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee in reverse. Despite attempts to stop the car, the driver continued to reverse and speed away. The police staff and warden pursued the vehicle to Khadi Machine Chowk, then Mantarwadi Phata, and Fursungi, but were unable to locate it as the vehicle was speeding away.

However, they were able to obtain the license plate number of the fleeing car. The anti-extortion squad and Kondhwa police collaborated immediately to search the Mantarwadi, Hadapsar area, for the car and its driver, Sushil Sudhakar Chavan, age 23 years, Res. of Gurudatta Mandir, Hadapsar Pune.

As per the information received, Chavan was detained this morning and subjected to joint interrogation. According to reports, he was driving from Jyoti Hotel Chowk to Pune city, consuming alcohol. When the police were conducting vehicle checks at Jyoti Hotel Chowk, the accused in the car had consumed alcohol. He was frightened and reversed the car to escape.

Some of the individuals in the car were students, while others were engaged in business. It has been confirmed that the accused has no prior criminal record and the car was not stolen. However, action will be taken against the accused for driving recklessly and violating traffic regulations.
