Konkan–Mahabaleshwar Route Set for Upgrade with Rs 175-Crore Cable-Stayed Bridge

Coming Soon! A Landmark Cable-Stayed Bridge to Connect Mahabaleshwar and Konkan( Representative image)
Western Maharashtra’s heritage meets modern marvel as a stunning new cable-stayed bridge is set to connect the Sahyadri hill station of Mahabaleshwar with the lush coastal beauty of Ratnagiri.
In a historic infrastructure boost to the region, a ₹175-crore cable-stayed bridge is under construction, linking Tapola in Satara district with Gadhavali Ahir in Ratnagiri, dramatically reducing the distance between Mahabaleshwar and the Konkan coast by nearly 50 kilometres.
Currently, travellers navigating between these regions are forced to take the longer and winding Ambenali Ghat route via Poladpur. Once this bridge is operational, visitors from Ratnagiri will enjoy a scenic and time-saving journey via the remote Koyna valley, crossing Raghuveer Ghat in Khed taluka, and reaching Mahabaleshwar through Tapola and the Kas Plateau — a route steeped in natural beauty and ecological significance.
The First of Its Kind in Western Maharashtra
Modelled after Mumbai’s iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link, this will be Western Maharashtra’s first-ever cable-stayed bridge. The structure promises to be an engineering spectacle:
- Length: 540 meters
- Width: 14 meters
- Viewing Gallery: A 43-meter-high central span with capsule lifts and stair access, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Koyna backwaters and Sahyadri sunsets.
Built by T&T Infrastructure, the bridge is expected to be completed by end of December this year, and will not just enhance travel, but emerge as a new-age tourist attraction in itself.
What This Means for Pune Tourism
For Punekars and travellers exploring the trails of Satara and Mahabaleshwar, this bridge is a game-changer. It ties together:
- The spiritual charm of Mahabaleshwar temples,
- The natural mystique of Tapola and Koyna,
- And the cultural richness of Konkan towns like Ratnagiri.
In one seamless route, tourists can experience hill station calm, valley serenity, and coastal vibrance.
A Gateway to Future Tourism
This isn’t just a road, it’s a vision. A gateway that unites:
- Ecotourism in Koyna
- Historical travel in Mahabaleshwar
- Culinary and cultural trails in Ratnagiri
With a bridge like this, heritage becomes accessible, and natural beauty becomes a shared journey not just a destination.
Your Future Route: Ratnagiri → Gadhavali → Raghuveer Ghat → Tapola → Kas Plateau → Mahabaleshwar → Satara → Pune.
