Lactating mothers can take jabs; vaccination to be deferred by three months post Covid19 recovery

The Union Health Ministry on May 19, 2021 informed that the vaccination can now be deferred by over three months after a patient recovers from clinical illness (Covid19). 

The recommendation in this regard was sent by the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid19, i.e. (NEGVAC) . The government informed that if an individual is infected with Covid19 after the first dose, the second dose be also deferred by over three months after recovering from the Covid19 infection.

The information shared also mentioned that there will be no requirement for screening of vaccine recipients by a Rapid Antigen Test kit prior to vaccination against Covid19.
There has been no detailed communication on pregnant women, and will be further informed by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.    

There is much hue and cry about the vaccination for lactating mothers. The panel members suggested that it is recommended that vaccination of all lactating mothers must be done. NEGVAC, the panel is now providing guidance to the government on prioritising population groups, selection and delivery of vaccine, mechanism to track and manage procurement and inventory too.
