Pune: The lemon price is touching new heights this summer season as one lemon is costing Rs 10 or more in different areas of Pune.

“Every summer the rate of lemon goes up as demand increases and supply is less. The rate of Lemon in the wholesale market is between Rs 2000-2500 for the bag of 300 or 500 lemons,” said Vilas Bhujbal, president, Market Yard Commission Agents.

The rate of one lemon was Rs 5 in March while in February it was Rs 2.50 and in January it was Rs 2.

“On the size of the lemon, the quantity of the bag is decided, Currently in the wholesale market, one lemon is costing around Rs 8. The price is expected to remain high for the next two months and it may increase further,” added Bhujbal.

The prices of other vegetables have gone up by 20% due to the temperature rise and hike on fuel costs.

“There is a chance that we will see more price in the rise of vegetable due to fuel prices and CNG rates that have gone up. Transportation prices are expected to increase,” added Bhujbal.
