Pune: A recent leopard attack in the Warulwadi area near Narayangaon has raised alarm among the villagers of Junnar tehsil, after a pet dog was killed by the wild animal late Saturday night. The attack, which was captured on CCTV, has left locals in fear as leopard sightings in the region continue to rise.

The footage shows the leopard emerging from a dark alley around 11 p.m., grabbing the pet dog, and fleeing the scene. Another dog was seen attempting to chase the leopard but was unsuccessful in preventing the attack.

Villagers are now demanding swift action from the forest department to capture the leopard before it strikes again. The incident has added to the growing concern in the region, which has seen multiple leopard sightings over the past month.

In fact, Junnar tehsil, along with Ambegaon, Khed, and Shirur, was declared a “potential leopard disaster-prone area” in June, covering 233 villages. Just a month ago, a leopard was also spotted on the campus of the Rajarambapu Institute of Technology on Pune’s outskirts, triggering a large-scale search operation by the forest department, fire brigade, and wildlife experts.

With repeated incidents like these, the residents are growing increasingly anxious, and efforts are being ramped up to ensure their safety.
