Pune: A fully grown male leopard, aged five, sustained serious injuries on Thursday when it was struck by a speeding vehicle near Narayangaon on the Pune-Nashik highway. The leopard suffered injuries to its back and was left unable to walk following the accident.

Local residents discovered the injured leopard sitting in an open field along the roadside and promptly alerted the forest department. According to forest officials, the incident occurred on the Pune-bound lane, likely around 7:30 pm.

Responding to the situation, a team comprising members from the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre and forest officials quickly arrived at the scene. They administered tranquilizers to the injured animal before safely transporting it to the rescue center for medical attention.

The forest officer responsible for the Junnar forest range stated, “The leopard is currently in stable condition and undergoing treatment. Fortunately, there are no fractures in its legs, but it remains incapable of walking or standing. Our veterinary team is conducting thorough examinations to determine the exact nature of the issue.”
