Leopard sighted at the grounds of DRDO’s R&D lab

Official says search operation launched and all dimensions being explored

A leopard was sighted in the wee hours of Tuesday morning in the premises of Defence Research and Development Organization’s (DRDO) R&D Experimental School grounds at Vishrantwadi on Alandi Marg, Pune.

The movement of the leopard was captured in at least 20 of the 100 cameras which have been installed in the campus. The forest department has been informed and a team rushed to the spot.

Speaking to Pune Pulse Conservator of Forests, Pune Division, Rahul Patil said, “Our team is at the spot and a search operation has been launched for the leopard. The area in which the leopard was spot has been quarantined and on one is permitted to move in that area. We have identified some track in which his movement can be seen so that area has also been cordoned off.  It was spotted by the security personnel.  The CCTV in the campus is also been closely monitored to for more clues and his traces. The forest area is adjacent to the campus and it is possible that it has gone back to the forest. We are probing in all dimensions.”

A few months ago, a leopard entered the campus of Mercedes-Benz India in Chakan, Pune.
