Leopard sighting spreads fear among Mohamadwadi residents; forest dept conducts survey

For the last few days residents of Prabhag 26 in Mohamadwadi have been living in great fear as they witnessed leopard in CCTV surveillance systems in two societies Sanket Park and Angul Park. The residents said that the cctv clearly shows that a leopard is seen moving around.

Today, the forest officials from Kondhwa surveyed the area from where complaints were raised, while the forest officials said that they are yet to come to a conclusion whether it is a leopard or wolf.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Manoj Parkhe, forest ranger, Kondhwa said, “We surveyed the area today and are yet confirm whether it was a leopard or a wolf. After surveying the area thoroughly we will come to know the exact status. We have asked the residents to stay alert. We haven’t yet seen any pugmarks hence it is difficult to day anything at the moment. Also, we are speaking to the local shepherds from the area. 

Jeevan Jadhav a social activist from Mohamadwadi said, “The residents were complaining about Leopard sighting in the area. I was alongwith the forest officials for surveying the area. We have asked the citizens to stay alert mainly when it turns dark. Forest officials are doing their work.”

Prabhag 26 Corporator Pramod Bhangire said, “The residents approached me requesting to look into the issue and help them out. They are living in fear since the day the leopard was seen in the CCTV. I have written a letter to the Wanowrie forest office requesting them to look into the matter.”

Bhupesh Sharma, Vishal Pawar, Ajit Alat, Prithviraj Shinde, Jitesh Sharma, Shubam Dangmali, Manish Ghule from Anandvan Mitra Mandal were also present for surveying the area along with Forest department officials. The team shall also conduct night patrolling alongwith the officials.
