Punitive measures have been taken by the Lonavala police against visitors who disobeyed traffic laws by attending the hill station to celebrate the New Year. 

A total of Rs 3.61 lakh in fines was collected, and at least 362 people were penalised. The Pune rural police launched a special operation against rule breakers in popular tourist locations in order to maintain Lonavala city’s smooth operation and to prevent any kind of public disturbance.

The traffic branch of the Lonavala city police took action against the violators. Visitors who blocked traffic, did not have a license, drove into no-entry roads, drove in opposite directions against traffic laws, and drove while intoxicated were all fined by the police and had their money taken from them via e-challan.

Several police officers were part of the police team. The National Service Scheme Volunteers, Lonavala Municipal Warden, and Police Mitra were instrumental in the traffic planning of Lonavala.

A senior police official said that they deployed a weekend special team at several tourist spots, even though their manpower was split between Koregaon Bhima and Lonavala, to prevent any unnecessary incidents and to uphold law and order. 

A special drive was conducted at both entry and exit points in Lonavala city in order to prevent any misbehaviour or disturbance to the public. With the help of student volunteers, the team was able to monitor those who violated the rules in two days i.e. December 30 and 31. In just 48 hours, at least 362 tourists were apprehended, and Rs 3,61,300 in fines were received.
