Lonavala Traffic Update: Heading to Lonavala for New Year? Check Open and Closed Roads Before You Travel
Pune | December 30, 2025: With a massive tourist influx expected in Lonavala to ring in the New Year, the Pune district administration has announced major traffic diversions and restrictions to prevent congestion and ensure public safety. District Collector and District Magistrate Jitendra Dudi has issued official orders implementing traffic changes from 12 midnight on December 30, 2025, to 12 midnight on January 1, 2026.
Key Traffic Restrictions and Diversions
To avoid congestion at Pawana Nagar Market, vehicles travelling towards Mumbai, Pune and Kamshet will not be allowed to pass through the market area.
Diversion Route (Mumbai–Pune–Kamshet Bound Vehicles):
Vehicles will be diverted via:
- Yelse Gram Panchayat Phata → Shivli → Kothurne village → Malwandi Phata → Bramhanoli → Waru Phata → Javan Road → Phangane → Thakursai → Khadak Gevande → Javan → Chavsar → Morwe → Tung
However, vehicles heading towards Pawana Nagar, Kalegaon, Ambegaon, Shindgaon, Pale, Dhamandhara and Dudhiware, along with heavy and essential vehicles, will be exempted from restrictions.
One-Way Traffic Arrangements
- Bramhanoli–Waru–Kothurne–Shivli–Yelse route will function as a one-way corridor during the restriction period.
- Local residents of Bramhanoli, Waru, Kothurne and Shivli will not be allowed to travel directly towards Yelse and must use alternative routes via Pawana River Bridge – Kalegaon Phata – Pawana Market – Yelse–Kamshet road.
Restrictions from Rural Areas Towards Pawana Nagar
Till January 1, 2026 (midnight), vehicles coming from Tung, Morwe, Chavsar, Javan, Khadak Gevande, Thakursai and Phangane will not be allowed towards Kale Colony and Pawana Nagar. These vehicles will be diverted through:
- Bramhanoli Phata → Waru Phata → Malwandi/Kothurne Phata → Shivli → Yelse Phata, leading towards Mumbai, Pune and Kamshet.
Heavy Vehicles Ban
To prevent bottlenecks, heavy and oversized vehicles have been banned from entering Pawana Nagar Market during the restriction period, except for essential services.
Administration’s Appeal
The district administration has urged tourists and local residents to follow traffic advisories, use alternative routes, and cooperate with police authorities to ensure a smooth and safe New Year celebration in the Lonavala region.
