Maharashtra | December 30: Maharashtra continues to reel under an intense cold spell as icy winds from North India strengthen across the state, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a fresh weather alert. While minimum temperatures are fluctuating, the chill remains severe, especially during early mornings and late nights.
Several districts have reported minimum temperatures below 10°C, with Niphad in Nashik district recording the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 6°C. Residents across regions are experiencing biting cold, particularly during dawn and nighttime hours.
Weather Forecast for December 31
- Mumbai: The city is likely to witness foggy conditions with a partly cloudy sky. Maximum temperature is expected to hover around 31°C, while the minimum may dip to 17°C. Morning and night-time chill will be noticeable. Coastal Konkan districts may also experience mild cold conditions.
- Pune & Western Maharashtra: Cold conditions persist across the region. Pune is expected to record a maximum temperature of 29°C and a minimum of 10°C. Increased fog during morning hours is likely, and motorists have been advised to drive cautiously.
- Marathwada: The cold spell continues with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar likely to see temperatures ranging between 12°C (minimum) and 29°C (maximum). Skies are expected to remain largely clear across the region.
- North Maharashtra: The cold is most severe here. Nashik may record a minimum temperature of 8°C, while Niphad has already touched 6°C, intensifying early morning frost-like conditions. Other districts in the region are also witnessing a sharp temperature drop.
- Vidarbha: Cold weather prevails with Nagpur expected to record temperatures between 10°C and 29°C. Clear skies are forecast, while districts like Gondia, Yavatmal, and Gadchiroli continue to report single-digit minimum temperatures.

With a significant dip in minimum temperatures across Maharashtra, authorities have urged citizens to wear warm clothing, take necessary health precautions, and avoid unnecessary travel during late night and early morning hours.
