During this Valentine’s season, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru experienced an extraordinary outpouring of affection, handling an astonishing 2.9 crore rose stems, weighing a remarkable 12,22,860 kg.

The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) reported an exceptional 108% increase in tonnage processed compared to the previous year.

The surge extended to both international and domestic rose deliveries, with a substantial rise in shipments noted. International destinations received 90 lakh stems, marking a 14% increase from the previous year. Domestically, 2 crore stems were shipped, showcasing an impressive surge of 148%.

Bengaluru stands as a key supplier of roses to various corners of the globe. Notable international recipients of Bengaluru’s roses include Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Singapore, Kuwait, Manila (The Philippines), and Sharjah (UAE). On the home front, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Guwahati, and Jaipur were among the top destinations.

Given the perishable nature of roses, maintaining their quality, controlled temperature, and ensuring swift turnaround times are imperative. To achieve this, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has invested in real-time tracking systems, empowering stakeholders to proactively manage temperature variations and uphold the integrity of delicate products. The airport’s advanced monitoring at specialized cold chain centers ensures an uninterrupted cold chain, resulting in expedited handling, enhanced security, and environmentally sustainable practices.

KIA has forged partnerships with WFS Bengaluru Private Limited and Menzies Aviation to bolster its cold chain capacity to approximately 80,000 metric tonnes per annum. Additionally, the airport is doubling down on efforts to facilitate the export of perishables, reaffirming its dedication to facilitating the seamless flow of fresh goods.
