Low Response to HSRP Plates in Pune; Only 45,000 Vehicles Registered
Update: Maharashtra Extends HSRP Deadline To December 31; Over 65% Vehicles Still Pending
Low Response to HSRP Plates in Pune; Only 45,000 Vehicles Registered
Pune: The implementation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) in Pune has seen a sluggish response, with only 45,000 vehicles complying so far. Despite being mandated to curb vehicle theft and prevent counterfeit number plates, the adoption rate remains low.
According to official data, Pune has around 25 lakh older vehicles, but only 0.75% have been fitted with HSRP plates. While approximately 2.5 lakh vehicle owners have registered for HSRP plates, delays in supply from vendor companies have led to installation backlogs.
Benefits of HSRP Plates
- Enhanced Security: Helps track stolen vehicles efficiently.
- Digital Vehicle Records: Aids in traffic monitoring.
- Prevention of Fake Plates: Reduces misuse in crimes and accidents.
Transport Department Urges Compliance
Authorities have expressed concern over the slow adoption rate. Despite making HSRP plates mandatory for older vehicles in 2019, many owners have yet to comply.
A transport department official stated, “Vehicle owners must get HSRP plates installed at the earliest. Non-compliance will lead to strict penalties.”
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Authorities are considering strict action against defaulters, which may include:
- Fines for non-compliant vehicle owners
- Suspension of vehicle registration
How to Get HSRP Plates Installed
To avoid penalties, vehicle owners can follow these steps:
- Visit the official HSRP registration website.
- Enter vehicle registration details.
- Select a nearby authorized installation center.
- Schedule an appointment for installation.
Despite the benefits, the slow response highlights the need for stronger enforcement and awareness campaigns.
