Lung billboard to detect air quality installed at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk in Pimpri

Pimpri: To create awareness among the citizens about air pollution and to check the daily air pollution level, a lung billboard (air quality indicator board) has been installed at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk in Pimpri in association with Pimpri Chinchwad Municipality and the local bodies.

Today, the billboard was unveiled by Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

“Along with taking care of their health, citizens need to realize their responsibility and use environmental supplements to maintain the balance of the environment,” he expressed.

Commissioner Shekhar Singh said that installation of thermometers as well as air pollution indicators are a separate initiative of the municipal corporation and the municipal corporation intends to install such billboards at various places in the city. So the citizens should contribute towards reducing the air pollution.”

Sharmila Dev of Parisar organization said, “We have been working to reduce air pollution for many years. In the last six years, PM 2.5 and PM 10, which are major and hazardous air pollutants, have increased by 30% and 61% respectively. This may affect the health of citizens, so they should be cautious about it.”

Whereas, Dr Dipali Gaikwad present at the programme said that air pollution has serious effects on health. High blood pressure, heart disease and various types of cancer are possible. The health effects of air pollution are permanent and cannot be cured by treatment, so it is important for everyone to take care, she said.
